Answer from Brett Krkosska:Buying Bulk Clothing and Selling It As Your Own Design Line
|
 |
| Clothing is considered utilitarian in nature and for the most
part is not protected by copyright. However, items with a distinctive cut, color, and
pattern may be identified with a particular brand and therefore protected as "trade
dress" if these features can't be separated from the utilitarian aspect of the
garment.
So, if an item is not trade dress, it's okay to buy clothing in bulk from a
major brand and "sell it as your own." |

You could, for instance, buy 1000 plain t-shirts from Hanes, add your
own label or replace the original label, add your own print designs, add stitching...
whatever you like.
If you relabel a clothing item you must comply with the Textile and
Wools Act, which mandates a clothing label contain care instructions, fiber content,
and the item's country of origin.
