Newsletter Templates and Formatting

Templates - Giving your ezine a consistent look from week to week begins with a good newsletter template.

With a consistent format your subscribers can easily move to their favorite sections of your newsletter.
(continued below...)

If you need a template, fill out the Free Newsletter Template form in the right-hand column of this page. We'll send complete instructions to your email on how to access several free newsletter templates.

Formatting - Fomatting your newsletter ensures that subscribers will see your content the way you wrote it.

First, using a text editor such as NoteTab or Ultra Edit, write your text in a fixed font such as Times or Courier.

Then set each line width at no more than 65 characters by hitting a hard return at the end of each line, or by using the line formatting function of your text editor.

Finally, convert your text to a proportional font such as Arial. In this way almost all email readers will see your newsletter the way you wrote it.

Formatting can be somewhat time consuming, but is vitally important if you want a professional look to your newsletter.

You may want to consider automating the whole process with a web-based service. Companies such as Topica and Constant Contact offer ready-made newsletter templates, easy formatting, and quick sending capabilities. You don't need any technical skills to produce a consistent and top-notch newsletter from week to week.
